It was a rare fairly quiet weekend here so I was able to just slip down to the studio and “play” today .. Often on weekends I just go grab some video on YouTube and let someone else train me (I’m actually quite fond of the LiveStrong “Stronger” series … worth checking out!) but YouTube was buffering to beat the band today so I had to improvise. Here’s what it looked like… after the warmup.. (BTW, I don’t necessary advocate just grabbing videos of the web, but there is some good stuff out there if you know what you’re looking for!)
1. 5 minutes of “rowing” .. I don’t have a “real” rower but have an old cheap thing that I stripped down to the frame and sliding seat .. I put handles on an 80 lb resistance band and wrap it around one of the posts on my heavy bag frame .. not have bad..
2. 2 minute “sprint” on the Stairmaster … no, you’re right, I don’t care for machines, but it was a way I could at least pretend to run a hill while my local hills are all still more suited for sledding than sprinting…
3. 3 sets of 10 on the suspension trainer of 1)T-Y-I flys 2)bicep curls. 3) alternating push-up/front fly and then one set to failure on each arm of preacher curls w/ 40 lb dumbbell
4. I usually use this sort of things as a finisher … 3 rounds with rep counts of 50/25, 40/20, 30/15, 20/10 and 10/5 – jumping jacks/squats … about a minute of rest between rounds.
Good stuff followed by a yummy dinner of honey mustard glazed chicken, beets, brussel sprouts and rice (cooked in organic chicken broth)
